Holding onto valuable cards until the ideal time to meld them is one successful tactic. When a player has a number of low-value carslots spelends & is awaiting a particular high card to finish a run, for example, it could be advantageous to postpone melding until that card is drawn or discarded. This strategy can put pressure on rivals who might not recognize your winning chances until it's too late.
