Anyone wishing to pursue this entertaining hobby must have a basic understanding of the structure and rules of rummy. A set number of cards—typically seven or ten, depending on the variation being new slots appplayed—are dealt to each player at the start of the game. One card is dealt face-up to begin the discard pile, and the other cards form a draw pile. As they take turns drawing, players try to make valid melds while discarding unwanted cards from either the draw pile or the discard pile. The game goes on until either the draw pile runs out or one player successfully melds all of their cards.
